modemn working windows dont relize it

i recently built a computer it was working fine i went to sell the computer and the modemn not working it was working fine until i uninstalled aol then all of sudden windows dont recongnize modemn its listed in the device manager but when you try to create a new connection in control panel the modemn not there im running windows 98 400/66 mhz cpu with 256 megs of ram with mmx technology and m,y modemn is agere pci v90 bitware modemn any advice would be appreciated,cause i dont want to restore the computer just to fix this

It could be a hardware problem that came at the same time as your uninstalling aol, but that's not likely.

I suggest you remove the modem from device manager, then reinstall as you did the first time. There's a good chance it will appear again.

Or power surge.Go in device manager too see if their are any conflicts. What ISP are you using now?Name of modem?

1.start-settings-control panel-modems, go to the diagnostics tab, 1 left click to hilite the Com port and modem as listed, click on "more info" bar. If ok, there will be a list of AT commands and results.
2. You must have the W98SE install CD or have the cab files in Windows\options\cabs.
Start-settings-control panel-add/remove programs-center tab "windows setup", communications listing, uncheck dialupnetworking, OK, restart PC. Go back to same place and checkmark dialupnetworking, restart PC.
Try again to "add new connection" IF you have the right ISP info to plug in.

i appreciate all your advice everything that was mentioned i tried so i just restored the computer erased and partitioned the hard drive and is working fine now once again thanks for all your support
