Modem stays connected

Jan 25, 2005 9:51PM PST

After logging of and disconnecting, the modem continues to keep the phone line. It used to work fine and then all the sudden it wouldn't disconnect. It says it is and it sounds like it does, but my line is still busy and I cannot use my phone unless I unplug the modem line from the wall and plug in the phone. I have had SBC out to check thye line - it is fine.

Logging Off

My experience was similar. I had AOL trial for six months with my new Dell Computer. After the trial I decided on a less expensive alternative. I signed up with Copper.net. From day one I had the same problem. It would sometimes take as long as 15 minutes for the connection to terminate.
After going back to AOL, its not an issue, while still using the same modem.
Right or wrong, I concluded that its an issue with the ISP.

Modem stays connected

I seem to be having the same issue on my HP Pavillion and we do use AOL. If I connect the phone line to the computer the modem is already on and has an open port. Kind of like if you leave the phone off the hook. The only way to fix it is to unplug the phone line. In addition to keeping the phone line open it also has a lot of static on it whick will not allow the computer to connect or even regonize the dial tone

almost the same problem

I'm having almost the same problem, the internet is still connected even tho i logged out and shut down my computer, i have to unplug the line from my computer, BUT it wont even disconnect if you just use the phone (say to call someone), just stays connected...

would this still have to do with the modem? or is it entirely different?
