Hi,
My name is Ian and I am a newbie on this website so hello to everyone and thanks for allowing me to use this valuable resource.
I work as a professional singer and I use software on my laptop to adjust the levels on my sound system. The software controls a 'signal processor' which is basically a box of tricks to alter the various sound frequency levels and produce a good sound for each different venue that I work in.
The signal processor has an I.P.address.
The system is connected as - signal processor - ethernet cable - router - ethernet cable - laptop.
This creates a physical connection ( ethernet cables ) between the laptop and the signal processor, with the router in the middle position. All works fine here, robust and reliable network achieved.
The router also creates an opportunity for a wireless connection to the signal processor.
An example of this is where I can use the same software installed on my laptop, but on my Ipad, and walk around the room making adjustments to the sound.
The software screen on the laptop shows various sliders moving up and down in sync with any adjustments I make on the 'remote' iPad, so the iPad and laptop respond together as one.
Using the iPad to walk around the room and maker sound adjustments is a real boon to me as it saves me making repeated walks to and from the laptop to adjust the software/signal processor for the best sound.
OK, all of this is working perfectly for me and I'm very pleased with the effectiveness and robustness of this system, so no problems here.
However, I also use 'Spotify' music streaming as part of my events, which requires a wireless internet connection, usually via the venue wi-fi or by tethering my iPhone to the iPad.
This is where my problem starts.
The iPad can only be connected to either the IPhone tether/ venue wi-fi ( for Spotify use ) OR the router network that I use for my signal processor, not both at the same time.
I can't access external wi-fi AND the signal processor at the same time, as they are completely separate networks. So, I can only make use of one system at a time, not both.
Ideally I would like to have my signal processor router also connected to my iPhone or venue wi-fi, which i think could be done, but I have no idea how to make the router pick up a wireless signal and re-transmit it out to my iPad and my laptop.
Ideally I would probably plug in a modem to the router and this would provide the internet connection, but there would never be this facility available at most venues I work in, just the usual venue wi-fi.
Can anyone suggest a means of linking the venue wireless signal and/or the tethered iPhone signal to my modem so I can access the internet on my laptop and iPad at the same time as using the router for the ethernet connection between my laptop and the signal processor unit?
Hope this all makes sense and apologies for my lack of accuracy in technical references to what is happening here. I have little experience in the use of wireless networks.
Thank you very much for your time and attention to my question and I hope to hear from a genius out there who can assist !
Ian.
