Modem router for better range

Mar 17, 2013 2:47AM PDT

hi guys,

im planning on getting myself a modem router, not a very expensive one. some where between $70-100.
Im Not very much of a computer guy. A friend on mine told me to get a TP-Link TL-WR941ND which would cost me around $45 and then replace the antennas with higher gain antennas or something. He sent me a link from amazon
http://www.amazon.com/antenna-Netgear-Buffalo-Routers-Adapters/dp/B005DCP280/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1363538285&sr=1-9&keywords=router+antennas
he asked me to get something like this.

so is this combination actually going to improve the range?
is that even going to be compatible? i mean can u simply change the antennas and expect better range? doesnt it require more power?

if you guys have any other better suggestion please let me know.
