Mode Switch problem on SD400

by RobSPetri / August 14, 2007 5:51 AM PDT

I have a Canon Powershot SD400 (Digital Elph). It's over a year old, and I'm having trouble with the mode switch. Regardless of where the mode switch is set, the camera stays in video mode 9 times out of 10. Sometimes I can get it to take pictures, but it takes fiddling with the switch. Also, while trying to upload my pics to my computer, when I finally get it in view mode, the camera shuts off before I can upload the pics. Has anyone else had this problem? To send it to get fixed will cost at least $99!!!

An external power source. My old Elph had a wall power supply that helped. But I also could remove the memory card to put in a reader so I never needed the camera to get the pictures out.

I can take the card out, I suppose, and just get a card reader. But I can't get it into Camera Mode to actually take the pictures. Plus I don't have a battery that will plug into the wall. Any other suggestions?

A new camera since that is likely to be cheaper than any repair job.

Before you toss it, try removing the battery for an hour then try again.

I thought cameras were supposed to last more than a year and a half. This is really annoying. I guess I'll send it just to get an estimate and depending on that I'll decide whether or not to get a new one.

...mode switch feel loose ? Can you feel it getting into position at a mode marking ? Try pressing the switch as you slide it into the mode you require.

audibly clicks into place at all three modes. I took the casing off the camera to see if it was something I could fix myself, but the switch mechanism is soldered onto the circuit board. When I put it all back together, it seemed to fix the problem a little, but only for a few weeks. Now it's worse than ever.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
