Modding Intel GMA 950 Shared Memory

by Chris_Fon / January 31, 2009 1:54 AM PST

I am soon to upgrade the RAM in an old laptop I found in my loft and I was wondering if there is a way of changing the amount of shared Memory the GPU takes from the system. Ideally to double the value from 64Mb to 128Mb.

Toshiba Equium A60
Intel GMA 950

Thanks All

If there is.

It's in the BIOS settings. Supply me a link to a PDF or screens shots of the BIOS so we can discuss this further.

Looks grim.

No settings show any promise. You can try adding ram and see if it does this automatically but I can't find the "specs" on this laptop to see if it does that.

While RAM may be a worthwhile addition, count on no change to the video ram size to guide your decision.

Wasn't too optimistic from the start. Seems like none of the vendors have ever released an Intel GMA 950 with more than 64Mb of RAM, so I doubt it is possible. Might tinker with my Macbook (stupidly, running the same GPU) and see if there are any Gems in the BIOS there.

Thanks a lot Bob - no idea what these forums would be like without you!!

You gave up the best clues if a BIOS setting looked promising. Thanks for the screen shots.
