Question

MoCA network already exist with TiVo?

Mar 30, 2015 12:25PM PDT

Hi,

Just a quick explanation of my scenario -

Live in a shared house, there's two separate internet providers.

Was originally connected to BT Infinity in the next room, he's just cancelled it though.

My other housemate has Virgin Media downstairs (152Mbps), at the moment he is letting me run a 100m cable down to his room so I still have internet for University, however it's not at all practical.

I was looking at alternatives, first I looked at powerline networking but after reading into it I realised there would be a lot of interference, lots of phone chargers, etc, plugged in.

Then I started reading into MoCA.

I already have Virgin Media TiVo in my room upstairs, connected to a coax splitter in the room next door which is then going downstairs to his room through the floor (which I am assuming is connected to the router?)

Is MoCA my best option? Would I need an adapter downstairs with the router, or is there already a MoCA network in existence due to the TiVo, therefore only needing the adapter connected to the splitter then ethernet cable to my room?

Also would like to know what kind of speeds/ping to expect with MoCA. I just got 160mpbs on a speedtest with the ethernet cable.

Would appreciate any advice.
