Question

MobileMe to Thunderbird?

Mar 4, 2012 7:13AM PST

As a user of .Mac/MobileMe mail (@mac.com;@me.com) on my iMac, I now am unwilling to change my OS to Lion or my mail system to iCloud because both add unneeded complexity (and probable trouble) for my usage. I really enjoy using Firefox, so I would like to try theThunderbird mail system and completely sever my ties to any Mac mail system. Is this possible? My understanding of Thunderbird is that it, as a client system, requires an ISP - provided mail system which is not attractive to me as I am also changing my ISP soon. How might I achieve my objectives? Thanks!

to Lion.
@mac.com and @me.com will continue to function in exactly the same way on your Mac.

Once the Lion installer has finished and the machine rebooted, you will find your mail exactly as you left it.

iCloud does some neat stuff but mail functionality remains the same.

Using Thunderbird & setup

IF you go to this page there are links for new users on how to set up your client to access your email from your existing ISP. You do have to know your ISP settings, but, you should be able to go to the ISP's web site and find answers about that - or call them! Changing ISP's? No problem. When you sign up ask them the same questions about their eMail setup.;

I've used Thunderbird for years and much prefer it over other systems I have used and am forced to use now.
