Mobile wifi

I own an AT&T USBConnect Mercury air card, and I would like to use it to create a wifi hotspot so that the kids and spouse can access the Internet from their respective devices during road trips. I know Cradlepoint makes such hotspot devices, but I'm not familiar with that brand. Does anyone have any recommendations regarding any particular devices?

For power sources, I would like the device to be capable of battery operation and also be capable of being plugged into the car's "cigarette lighter" plug.

Thanks for any suggestions.
