i downloaded a song,and the system used the media player to play this song.but an error message popped up displaying this:
"MMSYSTEM281 This file could not be played.Check the file name or install a driver that supports this type of file"
i want to play the song in winamp which is installed in my system.
OS:windows 98

Simple solution: start Winamp, and open the downloaded file to play it. It's not sure, of course, that Winamp plays this particular dialect of this particular filetype you don't disclose, but it's worth a try. Better try it before doing anything else.

If you always want to play sound files with this extension in Winamp, assiociate the filetype with Winamp. It might be that Winamp has an option to set the filetypes it's associated with; otherwise do it from Explorer via shift-right-click, Open with ...

Just make sure it's not a "poisoned file."

One of the ideas kicked around to give file and music sharers headaches is to release MP3's and such into the wild that would work sometimes.
