Question

Hi everyone. My sister assures me that this particular site and its very knowledgeable members base can answer correctly all questions computeral and digital. I am extremely dense about this computer stuff, so if we end up with answers, please go slowly and patiently with me. O.K., now that the caveats have been established............... bottom line...... I want to get the photos off my older digital camera, and into my new
Windows 7 computer. The driver disc that came with the camera says in teensy weensy print at the bottom that it goes with a bunch of Windows OS's with XP being the last one listed. My last computer was an XP, and I had no problem getting my pics out of the camera and into the camera computer program, then I would shift them all into my documents. Anyway, do you think there is a 'patch' or some similar thing to get my system working for me again.
Please keep the laughter down to a mild roar as I, hopefully fill in some blanks.
The camera is a 'Medion' MD9721, 4.1 mega-pixel model. Might be around 7 or so years old. I'm presently using a bought new Compaq Presario low end computer with Windows 7 installed. Computer is about one year old.
I hope someone out there is willing to tackle this with/for me.
Thanks.

the camera and the computer

Thank you for your response. Medion is still around. It is a brand retailed by an international group of stores called Aldi's. At the time it was originally offered, it was a pretty good deal, and pretty powerful for those days. The 'support' is out there, but extremely rude. I did their e-mail question thing to which I got a form e-mail response that had nothing to do with the question I had aked them. Earlier today I called them and got a really snotty acting guy who's only job is to make the people who call in feel real bad. I decided to ask you guys.
It sounds like what you are suggesting is a do-hickey that reads the memory stick that the photos are on, and, I guess hooks up to the computer via USB cord. How do you tell the computer to get and show the photos ?

That card gets a drive letter, just like a USB-stick. Then you use Windows Explorer or (My) Computer to copy the files to the hard hard. Couldn't be easier.

I can not explain why they are that way but can guess.

The support is for the camera and not for the PC folk connect it to. This is where there is a BIG disconnect from buyers of products and product support. If folk need PC support they often find it very expensive.

That's another reason I opt for the cheap solutions.

Re: getting pictures from the camera

How exactly did it work in XP? The three usuals:
1. The camera show in Explorer as a drive (say: kHappy without installing any drivers
2. You had to install the drivers to be able to see it in Explorer
3. You had to run a program you installed from the CD?
4. Or still another way?

What method(s) did you try in Windows 7. And what happened? Your post is rather long, but you don't tell anything about it.

If it didn't work, did you go to the Medion site to see if they have Windows 7 compatible software ready for download. When I wanted to connect my Canon camera to my Windows 7 PC the Canon site had the necessary software. Medion might have also.

If you can't find it on the Medion site, what does the shop where you bought that camera say about the problem.

The cheap, albeit somewhat clumsy, solution until you buy a new camera: find an old XP PC or laptop and use that to copy those pics to a USB-stick.

camera to computer

Thank you Kees_B for yor reply. I'll tell you what I can about how this thing seemed to work in the XP computer. It came with a CD sized and shaped disc that says on it.... Driver......MD9721.... 4.1mega-pixels.....Driver for Windows 98/98SE/ME Windows 2000/XP MacOS8.6/9.0.4. Put the disc in the cd player and the machine did some stuff, and evetually a shortcut icon showed up on the desktop. When you clicked on the icon, a page (?) came up that showed the Medion logo, a bunch of spaces that looked like squares of film only all blank, and on the side were things like 'select all', and 'exit', 'reload', 'download to computer', etc. To get photos out of the camera, you turned the top dial on the camera to 'PC', then connected it to the computer with a USB cable, turned on the camera, and then hit the camera icon on the desk top.
The previously described 'page' would show up, and the photos would automatically start showing up in the previously blank 'film squares', or you would hit the 'download to computer' button, and then the photos would start to show up, I honestly don't remember which way it was, other than it was pretty easy. When I got my new computer, I put the MD9721 Driver disc in the cd player and it did it's thing, and eventually the camera icon showed up on the new desktop. But now, when you do all of the stuff to get the photos out, nothing happens. The blank film squares 'page' shows up, but no transfer occurs. The computer doesn't chatter about or to the camera, you know what I mean ? It doesn't seem to recognize that there's a camera hooked up to it.
Yes, I did go to the Medion site...... I can't say for sure 'cause I'm so bad at figuring out computer stuff, but it seemed like I didn't find what I thought I needed to update or install some sort of patch to address this problem. Not saying that there isn't an actual answer there, just that I didn't find it.
At the beginning of your reply, you listed four questions to me about this problem, and my reply to you is that I think it might be a combination of #'s 3 and 4. Thank you for your assistance and patience.
