.mkv files

Hi. Does anybody know of any programs that let you convert .mkv files to dvd. I tried using winavi, but that gives me a division by zero error, and I tried using convertxtodvd but that doesn't allow me to select a subtitle file. The .mkv file only has a japanese audio track(AAC), with an english subtitle. If anyone knows how to extract the subtitle part, I can use that. All I'd have to do then is create a subtitle file and manually add that to my selection. As always any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

BTW if this is the wrong section please move it.

Got it to work...sort of

In reply to: .mkv files

Well after hours of much reading, trying ideas, and failing, I finally found a method that works. I had to convert the .mkv to .avi, extract the subtile stream from the .mkv, convert the avi to dvd with included subs, whew.lol. I didn't find a way to just convert the .mkv str8 to dvd, which I'm only now realizing might not be the fault of my conversion programs, but of the actual .mkv file itself. I wanted to avoid the google option cuz it normally takes you to forums where ppl list multistep ideas....and well....I was just being lazy and wanted a one step answer =p. Thanks a lot for the links guys, I learned a little more even if I didn't want to. LOL

Possible to maintain quality of .mkv (H.264) videos?

In reply to: .mkv files

Sorry for raising this forum "from the dead". But I just want to ask the above question.

I know that it's possible to convert MKV videos to AVI format, but to maintain the quality, is it possible?

There will be blood.

Or loss every time we convert from one format to another. Sometimes not much but those that claim no loss haven't done this enough.

(NT) Very well. Thanks for the clarification.

Another point that I was wondering

In reply to: Possible to maintain quality of .mkv (H.264) videos?

What would happen to MKV videos if I burn into DVDs via Data format in DVD Burning softwares? Have anyone tried that out?

Asking this because I just want to store the video files into something.
