I found folk to be rather aghast at the notion that the Intel Rapid Storage app was not optional and that the firmware in the drives mattered. If the Moderator in question reads this, they may share the story.
I'd like to hear how you will test this system. It's been about 20 years of RAID experience here and time after time I found the creators of these things to not be able to recover the system from their backups. I think you are trying to create one with the standard HDD but for a test run it would be interesting to remove one SSD and see if your system can recover.
So far I haven't see this work outside of the 500+ buck Adaptec cards.

I'm building high performance workstation/server possibly using the ASUS KGPE 2p server board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131643 and the ASUS PIKE 2008 card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816110057&cm_re=ASUS_pike-_-16-110-057-_-Product .
My question is would be possible to and if it is it a good suggestion to setup a 4 disk RAID 10 array using 2 ssds for performance + 2 hdds for redundancy.
