Mixing brands? I'm not aware that there ever was a problem

as long as the brand is a good one like Maxell, TDK, etc.

i had read

that different brands have different chemical compositions and that, in the past at least, the chemicals would not mix well and cause tape head problems.

i dont know if that's still the case with newer camcorders.

tape. The only brand I've had a problem with is Panasonic. Maxell, TDK, etc. are all fine. The Panasonic tape would not feed properly for one cassette (the camera thought it was used up), and, for the second cassette, the camera was not able to record sound. A switch back to Maxell fixed the problem.

mixing tapes

hi richard,

the only thing that i've read is that sony tapes are different (either wet or dry) and the other brands are the opposite. so if you pick sony, stick with sony. hopefully someone can give you the specifics on why sony tapes are different.

most places like sam's, cosco etc sell them in a pack of 6 or 8 and then seem to keep the same brand in stock all the time, so more then likely, if you buy locally, you will be able to get the same brand. and if you buy online, you will get the same brand.

i picked maxell, because i shop at sams and that's what they have - LOL i'm on my second pack of 8 tapes and haven't had any problems.

i hope this helps.
