General discussion

Mitsubishi software

Jan 12, 2005 9:16AM PST

I have been reading about the various versions of software for model WD-52525. I understand the latest version is 4.04. When I ask the sales people which version comes with the set, they claim they don't know until they turn it on and since the boxed is sealed they don't know . Is this true?

YES

It is impossible to know the software version that is in the tv until it is opened but most of the older version tv's should have been weeded out by now except for a few straglers.

version of software

Thanks for the rapid reply. I am concerned because I can purchase a new, sealed in box model 525 for 2900. I think this is a good price. Is the software easily updated and how does one go about doing that?

You guys serious?

Upgrade
Jan 13, 2005 12:23AM PST

It is a snap! Fill out the card in your manual and send it in...then call mits, sign a disclaimer that you won't distribute proprietary info, they send you a compact flash card with instructions, takes about 10 min. That is a good price on the tv but you can get it at Ultimate for around 2899.00 and some change. As for the other post, no most tv's aren't as easily upgraded...but thanks to great engineering the Mits tv's are.
Be well

I hope I made the right decisions
Jan 13, 2005 7:47AM PST

I bought 2 Mits - 52725 - $2600 and 52725 for $3000 at Tweeter - Houston and I hope that I made the right choices. Both have been upgraded to 4.04. I am using cable cards on both. It was a pain to set it up with TW, but finally got it done and enjoy it a whole lot. The Pictures are great ...only downside is no TV Guide and takes 3-4 sec. before the channel changed. But this is new technology so I understand it's not the greatest.
My 525 never had any problem, but I had to reset my 725 once since the upgrade, and that was 10 days ago. I had to reset , because I could not turn on the TV - either by remote or from the Panel.

Mits said that it's ok if need to reset few times a year due...do you buy that explanation? I hope that I made decisions on buying 2 Mits. Any feedback is appreciated.

GREAT
Jan 13, 2005 11:30PM PST

You made a good choice..as far as reset, that is a cable card issue...the cable companies are having some issues with the cards and thus the tv will require a reset. Rest assured, Mits dlp's aren't the only ones being reset. Any tv I sell with cable card when the device is being used are locking up. We will all get past this soon.

more questions....
Jan 14, 2005 12:55AM PST

Thank you for your reply. I watch my 725 Tv more than the 525. This morning, I was watching one channel, when I tried to lower the Volume, nothing happened, then I clicked the up channel, nothing happened...for 5 sec. and then it pulled up that channel, and everything worked normally. I did not need to reset the TV or anything, but what could cause this delay ? This is the same TV (use often) that I had to reset once. Is this a cable card issue too? should I try to replace this TV?

Thanks. Sean

more questions....

Sounds like your cable froze up for some reason. If you have more problems with the cable card, opt for the box as a temporary solution until cable fixes the card issue. You can try this, turn off tv, wait until tv is shut totally off, then unplug tv from power center/wall, pull out cable card, reinstall cable card, plug tv back into power source wait till initial power up is complete, turn tv back on. You may have to re-scan your channels. Also, which software version is currently on your tv?

I'm on version 4.04
Jan 14, 2005 2:25AM PST

why do you think it's the cable card issue? I fully agree with you that if I change channel and it'll freeze up for a few more sec. However, I was trying to lower the volume from the remote, and it froze for like 5 sec.

I misread your question. I haven't heard of that happening. I would wait to see if it is a reoccurring issue. If not, it was probably just a glitch.

Version?
Jan 15, 2005 3:15AM PST

I just purchased a 52725. How do I know what version I have? Does the version effect anything besides the cable card? I have Dish network so I do not use a cable card. Should I get the latest version? What will it do?
The rainbow effect is bothering me. Will I finally get use to it?
I hope I have not made a bad choice in purchasing this TV.
Thank you in advance for your help.

check with Mits Authorized service repair
Jan 17, 2005 1:02AM PST

just last night, my TV turned itself off...
The Service repair said that since 1) I'm using cable card, and also that I amd constantly surfing the channel, UP / Down , Vol Up/ Down...the TV can not "keep up" and process all the incoming data, thus it could lock...He think that If I am using the cable box, I would not have such problems. Do you buy that?
He also recommend to get a UPS / Line conditioner to regulate the voltage which also recommended in the manual, in case that the TV shut itself down often.

What is your 2 cents?

Thanks

Sean

Yes, I just spoke with my Mits rep and he told me the same thing...makes sense. As far as using a cable box, this is the way to go until cable gets it's act together and gets all the bugs worked out of the system. In my area, they are having so much trouble with cable card on all tv's they have stopped issuing them until it is resolved. I highly recomend a line conditioner and ups...go with the Monster 3600 and ups1000. It will help with your pic quality and also if you have power outeges.

not specific TV issue?
Jan 17, 2005 4:12AM PST

So you don't think I should get a replacement Mits or even another brand? You think that I would still have this problem? I am thinking about even replacing with the Sony 55XS955, which has the Build-in HDTV tuner and Cable Card. Should I or not? Is the Mits somewhat "buggy". Do you have any problem with yours?

Mits
Jan 17, 2005 5:52AM PST

I haven't had any problems with my Mits...I am using Sat/off air anttenna and not the cable card. Every tv I have sold regardless of the type has had issues with the cable card.

Help !!
Jan 19, 2005 10:28PM PST

My 52725 Mits resetted itself twice in the last 4 days. This morning, I turned on the TV and watch for 10 min. and it just resetted itself. Once, I turned it back on, it then shut itslef off. This TV has been causing lots of problem, I think that it is a TV problem because I have no problem weith my 52525.
I guess I need to exchange for another Mits? and if that is still causing problem then I think I will switch to another brand. Can you give me your 2 cents?
they are both on 4.04

Unplug tv from power source for 10min then plug back in, wait for initial reset, when light stops blinking turn tv back on. See if this works, if not then exchange for new one.
