Mitsubishi LT40134 picture problem

My TV has developed thin vertical multi-colored lines that obscure the entire left half of the screen. Watching anything is impossible. DirecTV claims the problem is not on their end. before I schlep the TV to a licensed service provider, I am wondering if there is some sort of quick-fix?

Did it just happen out of thin air? This sound like trying to watch certain format but the tv is setup in a different format. I am not absolutely sure; you are trying to watch interlance stuff in a progressive mode?

thanks for your interst. it came oput of the blue. i've tried system resets and viewing in different formats, and it is there no matter what.
