Mitsubishi DLP Television WD-57831 Class Action Lawsuit

Jul 25, 2007 11:43AM PDT

Hello,

Is anyone interested in getting in on a class action lawsuit against Mitsubishi and their (known?) defective DLP televisions? I've seen numerous posts regarding lamps, ballast boards, DLP engines, total rebuilds, poorly assembled thermistor sensors, air flow problems, useless repairmen, etc. etc.

I too am experiencing the joy of making 3 Diamond Card payments as well as HD cable programming payments all for a television that stopped working back on June 30, 2007 and has had 2, now a pending 3rd, unsucessful attempts by incompetent "authorized repair centers" to fix it. ITS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD!!! Randomly replacing parts without performing electronic troubleshooting is totally unacceptable.

Anyway, please let me know if anyone would be willing to sign some papers and get this thing going.

Thanks!

Was anything done regarding a class action suit?
Jun 15, 2011 8:19AM PDT

I'm just wondering if you ever got any resolution with the problems you
were having with your Mitsubishi TV. I bought my 62725 in June of 2005
and replaced the the format board / chassis in March of 2009 and had
problems ever since. I've replaced the bulb at least twice, maybe three
times. The chassis just went out again; they won't fix it - their
resolution is to give me a discount on a new TV. I told them to either
replace the lemon or I would never ever buy another TV from them.
Needless to say, if you are pursuing a class action suit still, I'm in.

Mitsubishi WD-73838 with white/black spots all over screen
Nov 5, 2011 5:07AM PDT

Within the last month of October, 2011 two white spots on the screen has become thousands of white/black spots all over the screen interfering with television viewing. At the time of purchase I bought an extended warranty, however, Pieratt's of Lexington, KY has been unable to get the needed part to be shipped by Mitsubishi.

WD-52631 Air flow problems **possible fix**
Aug 19, 2008 10:07AM PDT

My Mitsu 52631 has had the "air flow" message as long as I've had it. I've researched this problem a couple of times now, and I've seen several recommendations on online forums, but I've yet to see this solution posted:

On the rear of the TV, there is a small removable panel that has instructions on lamp replacement and disposal. There are two (2) shiny flathead screws, remove them, and pull the lamp cartridge out (it actually has a handle to do so). DO NOT TOUCH THE LENS OF THE LAMP! The oil from fingerprints will decrease the life of the lamp. Once you remove the lamp cartridge, hold it by the handle and examine it. There are three (3) screens/filters on the lamp cartridge, two(2)large screens and one(1) small screen. The small screen is the inlet air filter, mine was completely CLOGGED WITH DUST! I used a toothbrush to brush away the dust and blew the lamp cartridge off with a can of compressed air (the kind for cleaning keyboards), and the TV has worked well since. This fix takes about 15 minutes. I can't guarantee that it will work for everyone, but it worked for me. THEY SHOULD HAVE BUILT IN AN EXTERNAL FILTER THAT COULD BE EASILY CLEANED OR REPLACED! IT SHOULD NOT REQUIRE DISCONNECTING ALL OF YOUR A/V EQUIPMENT TO FREQUENTLY REMOVE AND CLEAN THE LAMP CARTRIDGE!

Re: Repairing your TV
Nov 20, 2007 11:52PM PST

Note: As far as ASC's are concerned, they follow what Mitsubishi tells them. If Mitsubishi has no clue, then they do actual troubleshooting.

In Mitsubishi Diamond DLP's, certain problems can have more than one cause, and there is no way to narrow it down.
(A flashing timer light is one of these)
We have experienced massive frustration on the part of our customers with how slow Mitsubishi is with answering our technical support queries, and I wish you luck in your ambitions.

Mitsubishi Class Action Suit
Dec 6, 2007 5:18AM PST

I have a Mitsubishi WD73827 Diamond Series DLP that has been nothing but a nightmare and headache. I get an average of 4 months on the bulb before the replacement notice comes up and now the light engine is gone. I have been waiting over 3 months for a repair. Supposedly the light engine has been on backorder. Why backorder? Because every one of the darn things is broken? I now have a 5 foot by 6 foot black box sitting in my room that is totally useless. Customer service is even more useless since it takes an average of 45 minutes to be told there is no help available. The bulbs go for $230 and the light engine is $1780. After my initial $5000 purchase price I am in for $8000. Run fast, run far, just run away from Mitsubishi products. Please include me in any class action.

lamps out every 5 months on my mitsubishi dlp
Dec 21, 2007 11:38PM PST

i purchased a 2007 mitsubishi 65" diamond series tv in sept. 2006. it is now december 2007 and i have just recieved this tv back fron its third repair and now its on new lamp number 4. i purchased a 4 year extended warranty that would replace 1 free lamp for me. my free lamp is now used up on the warranty and at now i will have to pay out of pocket for any more lamp failures. at about $300 a lamp and at the pace that these lamps go out it will cost a small fortune just to keep this tv lit up. at 2-3 lamps per year it will cost $600 to $900 per year. mitsubishi will not even consider replacing this set for me because it is no longer under there first year warranty. and philips (the warranty people) say its not a lemon tv if the lamps go out. what a crock all the way around. please contact me in any suit that may be filed. in the meantime after the holidays i am planning on taking further action of some sort. we love the picture on this set and want to keep it but obviously it would be crazy to fix this set every few months. it has already spent about 1 1/2 months in the repair shop out of the 14 months i have owned it. in my mind mitsubishi should be the responsible party and either fix this set permantly, replace it or give me lamps to keep in stock so that i can replace them when they go out. as a consumer i thought i did all the right things when making this purchase. i bought there top of the line unit and purchased enough warranty to see me through the first 5 years. very unhappy camper,,,,,,,,,,,, i can be emailed at rjf183@aol.com. ron............

Is this Typical??
Jan 1, 2008 1:07PM PST

So, our lamp just burned out on our Diamond Series Mitsubishi TV after about 1200 hours of use. Should we expect to replace the lamp annually and $300+ a pop? This was not told to us upon sale at Pauls. Anyone else NOT told about this expense? Note: our 11 year old 25" RCA TV is still going strong. What a sad state of affairs for new Mitsubishi owners.

1 year per lamp is about average from what I have seen
Jan 30, 2008 1:07PM PST

Yes that is typical, and if you can get 1 year of use out of it consistently, then that is just fine.

My salesman informed me that it would be every 2 years that we had to buy a new lamp. Needless to say, I was pretty pissed to find out I would be buying a new one every year.

When can I join the Class Action Lawsuit?
Feb 2, 2008 2:03AM PST

Sign me up!

Purchased a WD-52631 on 5/20/07, lamp is gone by 1/30/08...

Checking here in AZ, NO RETAILER has a replacement bulb available to sell in Arizona! Calling Mitsubishi is a joke as they do not care... Can't get ahold of them... Retailer who we have an extended warranty with (w/ 1 free lamp replacement) cannot even honor the warranty as they have no bulbs to bring over... Looks like the tv is going to be down at least 2-3 weeks...

Where do I sign/join?

Issue with WS-55711
Nov 17, 2008 1:19AM PST

Cannot believe how many consumers I have located on the Internet, with a complaints against Mitsubishi television sets. My problem is about the same with the green light diagnosis? My unit is a WS-55711, which I purchased some years ago. My employment is on cruise ships, so the tv has not had that much use, seeing that I'm only at home about 3 months of the year.
I called in a tech who actually got a just beautiful tv picture, for about 30 minutes than it went out, when we moved the set. He was their and flung his hands up in disgust around 10.30 at night, after being there from 3.00 oclock in the afternoon. First he messed with the DM board and was rewarded with a great picture. We ended up with me only paying him a $100.00 and another $400.00 for an Toshiba big screen, but not high definition.
I still want to get the big set working, so does anybody know a capable tech in the West San Fernando valley california?
I have since retired and are at home now....

WS-55711 - help with video repair...

I saw your post here regarding your defective Mitsubishi WS5711. I also noticed that you live in the west San Fernando Valley as do I (Woodland Hills). Did you ever get yours fixed, was it local and if so can I have the name?

Mine has a serious problem with the colors in the display ... somethings off and even setting/resetting "Convergence" didn't fix it.

I welcome your (and all) feedback.

Thanks

Another bulb bites the dust
Dec 26, 2007 6:11AM PST

I also would be interested in a lawsuit against Mitsubishi. We had our 3rd buld burn out in July. This was in 11 months. During each instance we sat without our television and very slow service for 4-6 weeks. We purchased our television through Circuit City and on one of our calls, their sales person said we could come in and buy another. I don't think we will be doing so any time soon. On Christmas day, yesterday, our lamp light came on and the tv went blank again. Now we are off our 12 month warranty and onto our extended warrenty. We were told today that the lamps are on back-order so we are probably looking at a couple weeks before one is shipped out.

If you are moving foward with this suit, please let me know.

imho take the offer of a new tv quit suffering
Jan 30, 2008 11:35AM PST

ive personally seen many people with your situation and i always advise them to take the offer of another product as a replacement
let circuit repair the tv at their service center ( if they still have any) but after they replace yours...normally the retailer wont bother with it but instead get a credit from the manufacturer

Dec 26, 2007 9:21AM PST

My problems are all to familiar to anyone on this forum...I regretfully own a WD-57831. I've been dealing with this for about six months now with no end in sight. The company that "supports" my extended warranty says I'm SOL because the problem (blooming=light engine)is somehow related to the lamp replacement/airflow issue my sevice tech addressed back in September. They say it's a pre-existing defect and is covered by Mitsubishi's warranty.......oops, that's right.....that warranty ran out ten days ago. I especially like the way the CS people act like this is some anomoly caused by the sevice tech swapping out an $.89 part. The part that really sucks is that I've supported and touted Mits as a great product for years.......Even when faced with burn-in, my friends with plasmas are thankful they didn't follow my lead on this one. Wish me luck, and count me in on anything that will publically bring this to light (no pun).

WD 57831 - Lamp Just Blew
Dec 30, 2007 6:14AM PST

Hello. We've owned our Mitsubishi 1080P 57" DLP (WD 57831)since 10/2006. The lamp blew out last night. When I called the shop (Pauls)where we purchased it from, they told me that is normal. The lady stated that about one year or 4000 hours of view time is the typical lifespan. Now, here's the problem - we do not watch that much TV. We turn it on 2-3 times a week for 3 hours or so, which amounts to about 10 hours maximum on average per week, or 520 hours annually. Let's say I was way off and we double that number - that is less than 1200 hours on this new lamp on my new (very expensive) TV!

I'm interested in learning more about this class action suit. Thanks.
