Mitsubishi DLP Television WD-57831 Class Action Lawsuit

Jul 25, 2007 11:43AM PDT

Hello,

Is anyone interested in getting in on a class action lawsuit against Mitsubishi and their (known?) defective DLP televisions? I've seen numerous posts regarding lamps, ballast boards, DLP engines, total rebuilds, poorly assembled thermistor sensors, air flow problems, useless repairmen, etc. etc.

I too am experiencing the joy of making 3 Diamond Card payments as well as HD cable programming payments all for a television that stopped working back on June 30, 2007 and has had 2, now a pending 3rd, unsucessful attempts by incompetent "authorized repair centers" to fix it. ITS ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD!!! Randomly replacing parts without performing electronic troubleshooting is totally unacceptable.

Anyway, please let me know if anyone would be willing to sign some papers and get this thing going.

Thanks!

Mitsubishi DLP Television WD-52725 Class Action Lawsuit
Sep 5, 2008 9:53PM PDT

New to this forum - could someone please let me know if this Class Action suit has been filed - how can I go about adding my name to the list. Own this 52inch piece of !!!!. Told that it will take over $990 and it might "fix" the green vertical lines. This set was purchased 11/04 for $3,500 and has not even reached it's forth year. I own two other sets made by Mitsubishi from 1988 and 1990 and they are perfect. I have already made my complaint to Mitsubishi - waiting on their reply - which I probably will not get!. They knew these sets were inferior and they never offered a recall etc... I am filing a complaint with the BBB in CA per instructions from other forum members. Need any and all info to fight this. I refuse to have to purchase another set - go into debt to do so and be left with this huge PAPER WEIGHT. I consider this RAPE!!!!!and will not stand for it.
Thanks to all for info!

There are 49 other states in this country. What do we have to do to get a class action lawsuit that covers the entire country?

Mits class action lawsuit
Oct 1, 2008 5:19AM PDT

Is there really a class action law suite???!!!! I sure hope so because let me tell you we purchased the Mitsubishi DLP WD-52725 and let me tell you what a piece of crap that was! We spent $3,600 on a tv that we have not had in the past 5 months. Thank God we purchased the extended warranty from GE Warranty, let me tell you they are just as bad as the TV we purchased. The customer service was extremely rude and abusive towards me, no one could give me an answer about my TV. We had it fixed 6 times first it was the fans then it turned out it was not the fans then they thought it was the front panel board that was bad they took that and sent it out turned out it was not that then they took the chasis, after 3 months of working on the chasis they assured us it would be working great, after one week it started all over again with the TV shutting down every 30 seconds and no sound all our icons to program the tv were gone as well. They tried to put in a new chasis that did not work. Now GE Warranty finally agreed to exchange the TV out for a new TV from HH Gregg, well we are still getting screwed we need to come up with another $600! $400 for a new extended warranty (which really dont have to purchase but after this problem with this TV and the exact same thing happend to the TV prior to that we will always carry an extended warranty) and we have to buy a new TV stand since the stand for the WD-52725 is made specifically for that particular TV. TV stands are not part of the extended warranty so now we have to buy a new one for the new TV we are being sent. They could not send us a another 52 inch they said we have to go with a 61 inch TV. Of course they do that so they make us spend more money on a new stand! Crooks!!!! So now we have to come up with $600, we are very upset and would love to join in any class action lawsuit that may be out there. We are from Hamilton Ohio. Please let us know if there are any out there.

Thanks for letting me vent!!!

Mitsubishi WD-52725
Dec 15, 2008 7:50AM PST

Can anybody help? This is my first posting about my pile of !!!!!
My tv is about 3 1/2yrs. old. Already replaced two bulbs.
On 12/12/08, the lamp went out and then a LOUD HUMMING SOUND starts
coming from the rear of tv, right near the bulb. If you shut the power down, let it sit and then turn back on, it will do the same thing and then the red lamp light stays on steady. I pulled the bulb, but is not burned out. Anybody out there heard of this. Going thru a lot of the same crap as other Mitsubishi.

Thanks, Alan

How to get into lawsuit and contact BBB
Feb 3, 2009 12:12AM PST

My 52725 is not working and having a service man over for the first time. I have replaced the light cartridge which did nothing. Blinking green light on the timer and no picture. Over a week now with no tv.
Any help will be appreciated.

I had gotten my TV for the superbowl last year and now it has been serviced twice since then. Once for the penquin airflow issue... and now for the lamp (so they say). Now I understand the lamp. Bulbs burn out. But, I pulled it out and nothing looks burned out or anything. something else is crappy going on with it.

Then need to tell you at Brandsmart or any other electronic store that you will need to put in a totally dust free, cool environment where you can't watch it the way you would like..

So, count me in. I may not see the check until retirement, but at least I will know that it is coming.

Count me in on this class action lawsuit. The bulb lasts only for 2,000 hours. At 13 to 15 hours a day, that equals 2 to 3 bulbs a year. At $300 a pop, thats up to $900 a year! Now the computer board has gone into green light heaven. Its now been over 2 months since Mitsubishi has been trying to rebuild the set. This purchase has been a total disaster. When the set was working(?) the color and brightness was terrible. Prior to this set, I had a Sony CRT for over 13 years that had better picture quality.

Again, count me in!

Class action lawsuit?
Sep 18, 2008 10:36AM PDT

My Mitsubishi WD-62825 television has the GBLOD disease too. After $5700.00 and three and a half years. Wow! Talking about bad investments. I am dancing with Mitsubishi on the phone every day now and have only been offered 25% off of my repair bill of $740.00.
Nope, I am not getting anything repaired that has such widespread problems just to have this problem happen over and over again and drain my bank account.
I will not accept anything less from Mitsubishi than a new improved model. I will not have my old one repaired.
I hope there is an attorney out there that will take this class action lawsuit on because it sounds like there are plenty of angry people having these problems with these tv's. Coincidence, I don't think so.
I went to the Federal Trade Commission website and filed a complaint on the Federal website. If enough people file complaints on this website, we might get some interest from the FTC to do something about this issue.
I encourage people to go to the FTC website and file a complaint.
You never know until you try.
Even if people threw out their old television, still file a complaint, people might be able to recover something out of this.
website is: www.ftc.gov/
Please everyone, let everyone know that is having problems with these Mitsubishi televisions to go the FTC website and file a complaint.
Thanks

I did check with the MILLSLAWFIRM last week and they confirmed that there is a class action lawsuit under way for lightbulbs blowing out early in these televisions.

I also told the secretary about the other probllems people were having with these televisions and that people were talking that they wanted a class action lawsuit on these other existing Mitsubishi problems. She told me to have people e-mail the problems with the tv to their lawfirm at WWW.MILLSLAWFIRM.COM
Bye for now!

Thank you so much for reminding me of the Federal Trade Commission and submitting their website - just submitted my "Complaint" form to them. Please everyone who is experiencing circuit boards, blubs "whatever" with the models, please, please submit to all who will listen. I also submitted my complaint to the BBB in CA.

I heard from MIT and they offered to pay 50% of the repair on the circuit boards and I told them "not good enough" I expect the entire repair fee.

Other competitive electronics companies out there. Watch out
Sep 28, 2008 11:38AM PDT

They offered you 50% off your repair bill. Wow, they only offered me 25% off mine.
I think Mitsubishi is playing with people trying to do damage control.
It's sad that Mitsubishi charged people so much for their televisions and now they are playing with people's minds. Its sad that a big company would not back up their very expensive technology. Mitsubishi is supposed to be one of the top electronic companies around.
I am really sad that Mitsubishi has dropped down in ratings for electronic products.
Word of mouth can do alot of damage to a company.
I hope they save their reputation before this happens and its too late.
There are alot of other companies out there that are really competitive these days.
Watch out Mitsubishi!

Mitsubishi is offering to replace my set
Oct 23, 2008 12:51AM PDT

Going on 60 days now with this whole ordeal and after reporting them to the FTC/BBB in CA and really anyone that would listen - MIT is now contacting me that they would like to replace our set. In going back and forth with MIT - they offered to pay 50% of the repair cost on our 52 inch 52725 model with a one year warranty on the repairs(circuit boards). I told them that was not good enough and that I wanted a new set - of course, they said NO - I now hear back from them that they would like to offer a new set as a replacement for our set - they are offering WD-60735 - 60 inch with a one year warranty. I was told by the repair shop that the boards for the 52 inch have been rebuilt - not sure why MIT is coming around offering a new set!!!!! Does anyone have any info on the WD-60735? I would really appreciate your feedback.
By the way - before the 52 inch circuit board went out - we had just put in a new blub - so if I accept their offer - which I guess I should - since the 52 inch is 4 years old, I have a blub for sale.
Thanks so much,

The only downfall is that it is a DLP projector, which means
Oct 23, 2008 1:02AM PDT

The only downfall is that it is a DLP projector, which means it has a bulb which would need to be replaced. Spring for the extended warranty that covers the bulb. I see the bulbs are well over 100 so while I don't read disaster stories about this model I'd take this and get the 3 year warranty.

Mits 60 in
Oct 23, 2008 1:26AM PDT

When we had our 52 inch Mits replaced by GE Warranty they offered us a choice of the 60 inch Mits or a 61 inch Samsung. We went with the Samsung just because I was afraid to deal with another Mits tv. Just a thought before you sell that bulb I think you have to return the TV back to them in the condition it was in when it broke. So you may not want to sell it but now sure... We went to the store and looked at the Mits 60 inch it did not look like a bad tv much better picture then the 52 inch. Just make sure you purchase at least a 5 year warranty. We did with the 52 inch and Thank God it just paid for a brand new 61 inch Samsung that is an awesome. We love it! I will always buy a warranty for a big tv that is two tv's we purchased that died within 5 years. Spend the extra $400 and get a warranty (just don't buy the GE Warranty they were terriable to work with to get that replaced. 5 months fighting with them with no TV and they were mean and rude. The one customer rep at GE Warranty degraded me so badly, he asked why I was so upset I said look if you spend $4,000 on a tv and went 5 months with out a TV wouldnt you be upset. He said first of all mam I don't have a $4,000 tv in my house because I am an intellectual person I don't waste my time on mindless TV!!! I was shocked that he said that to me!!!) so the GE Warranty people RUDE and MEAN. I did here that Mits discontinued that 52 inch TV a year after they put it out on the market. They should have done a recall on it the Chasise (spelling) on all of them went out and they could never get it fixed properly. We went threw 3 of them. We need to do a class action law suite. I dont know what it takes to do one if anyone knows please feel free to post something!

60 inch MIT
Oct 23, 2008 2:28AM PDT

Thanks for the info - I don't think I have a choice in going with another brand - MIT is having the set delivered to our home - so I will not actually have the money in hand or voucher etc... to make a different choice. Our 52 inch did NOT have the warranty on it. I agree, I need to purchase an extended warranty on this one - but not sure of who will help me with that since MIT is supplying/replacing the set and we are not making a new purchase with the option to take the ex warranty. I will do some research to see if I can purchase through an outside Company - if not, I guess I will be in the same boat again with a huge paperweight and fighting with MIT.
The comment of the GE warranty rep - his education sure let him down if he is in a call center handling warranty claims - We always think of the come back to late in the conversation!
Thanks for your input - really appreciate the reply

I have the 60735
Dec 15, 2008 10:29AM PST

I received my replacement set about 6 months ago and I love it. Its bigger brighter and at least its new. My extended warranty on my 52725 was set to run out 18 months from the time it was replaced so I figured it was well worth the tradeoff. At least I hope this set lasts at least 2-3 years. By then, it will be cheaper to buy a new set then to get it repaired.

Continuous problems with WD-57831
Sep 29, 2008 1:23AM PDT

I have experienced the same issues with my WD-57831. I am waiting for another incompentent repair man today to replace the DM board now. I have had the set for almost two years and it is on it's 3rd lamp. They have replaced a ballast board, the thermal sensor, and now they are replacing the DM board.

The repair provider, Downtown Radio of Denver, is totally useless and they stall my service every chance I get. It will take them over a month to two months to get the parts and return several times in the process.

I'm sick of it. You pay this much for a state-of-the-art HDTV and this what you get get from Mitsubishi.

Yes, I will sign papers for a class action lawsuit. Please contact me back and I will follow through with you.

Sincerely,

Doug

Give up
Sep 29, 2008 2:22AM PDT

I finally gave up and dumped my Mitsu after 4 bulbs in 3 years, and a power relted repair which would not allow the TV to come on. I lost use for over 2 months in the last year. Bought a Pioneer Elite 50" two months ago. It's like a new world. Nothing is worth the aggravation of constantly having your $4,000 go down regularly with air flow, dead bulb, or electrical problems. I wouldn't own another Mitsu product if they paid me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lamp Problems
Sep 29, 2008 11:50PM PDT

I followed the advice of someone else and filed a complaint with the BBB in California. Mitsubishi paid for my lamp! This is the only way to get action.
