Mitsubishi 52525 purchase and glare

Jan 24, 2005 4:19AM PST

I am getting ready to buy this TV, but I want to make sure I am getting correct info. The TV will be going in my den which is decent size, lots of lamps and one wall is glass. The room is approx 20' X 26' and I will be sitting about 12-15' from the TV 1) Will I be happy with the 52" or should I bite the bullet and get the 62"? 2) If the glare is too much, what does the picture look like without the screen cover? 3) Would I be better off buying the Samsung that does not have the screen cover? 4)I buy plenty off the internet, but I am reluctant to buy a TV online - should I be? 5) What about the extended warranty for around $400 for 4 years? Thanks for helping a newbie.

Definitely go with the bigger tv. As far as the screen, behind the plastic is the same screen as the Samsung, Mitsubishi has a 49 dollar trim kit that makes the tv look fantastic! I would never spend 3-4k on the internet, go local! Also, get some extended coverage, you will need it in the future.
Great tv!

OK, you convinced me on the 62", but you really didn't have to work very hard to get me there - LOL. What is the difference between the 62525 and the 62725. Is it just cosmetic? Is it worth it?

If you have alot of windows and kids and large dogs you will want to keep the screen protector on and go with the 725. It has a 96% anti-glare protective shield so you will get less glare. (in theory)
My opinion, if you don't worry about kids or damage to the actual screen, save the 200 bucks get the 525 and take the screen off and get the trim kit. That way, you don't have any glare and you get the great Mits DLP picture.

I am considering purchasing either a 62" Mit DLP or a Pioneer Elite 61" Plasma. The plasma is so much more expensive and I would like to purchase the Mit - however a few concerns have been brought up. With yours (we have big windows, no dogs or kids) can you watch during sunny day with minimum or no glare with screen cover off? Is the picture far better from viewing head on and level than at an angle? We will have to be viewing at an angle as ours will be in a cabinet beside fireplace in corner. Also because of furniture, ours will be elevated about 45" off floor (Bottem will be 45 ".) With your experience, do you think our viewing with the Mit DLP will be compromised because it is not head on and level?

TV and Your Location(where you live)?

Bassmaster just wondering where you are located at? I spoke to a customer on the phone about 30 min ago 11:00 am Jan 25th with the exact same situation/story as yours(Gastonia NC). Just wondering if it might be the same person. You've got a good bit of choices and haev it narrowed down to some of the best for the money.

My recomendation is the Samsung pedestal DlP if you don't need all the extra features that come with the mitsubishi. If it is the same person come in and see me and we'll make sure you get the right tv and a great price.

I have a sony 53" rear projection TV. It broke 2 times on me already, $700 each time to fix. Less than 5 years old. Parts are expensive, but labor is even more expensive. Just when it costs you $50 for a guy to come out to your house and look at a TV, it is definetly worth it. $400 would only be about 10% of the cost. I am going to skip fixing it the second time and just buy a new one froma different company. I am done with sony.
