Missing Printer on my Network! Need Help please

by AlienRob / April 11, 2006 10:25 AM PDT

Ok, so i just wahtched Cnet's weekend Project on how to share printers over a network. My Problem is, after I have shared the printer that I want sahred, and go to put it on another computer I cannot find it.

Tech Info:
Wierless netowrk using a belkin router.

HP 1300+ Printer/Scaner

HP a610n - The computer that the Printer is connected with

and lastly an Emachine

Here are my steps that I have taken so far, Computer 1 is the computer with the printer I am trying to share, and computer two is the one that will be using the printer via the network.

Computer 1-I turn on the printer and go to:
''Printers and Faxes''---> Right Click on ''HP1300 (The one I want to share)''--->Properties--->Sharing--->Share This Printer--->And I name it ''HPprinter''

Computer 2-I go to add a printer--->Browse--->The Workgroup name apears along with the two computers on the network. I click on computer 1 but there is no printer showing...

See the problem?? I would love any suggestions beyond restarting the two systems, because I have already done that twice.

Sorry about the horrible grammer and spelling, I am typing these on my PSP because I am away from my computer.

Give this a try...

You don't state the OS of the 2 PC's, but maybe you can try this.. Create a temp directory on the HDD of Computer1 and share it (<right-click> folder -> Sharing). Go to Computer2 and Explore though Network Places to your WorkGroup then Computer1. Can you see the temp directory? Can you open it? If yes, I'm guessing you also see the shared printer <right-click> it and select Connect. You'll now find it under Printers & Faxes. If yes, but you don't see the printer, your printer not actually shared. If you don't see the temp directory listed your issue is probably security. Try adding the login name of the User that you use for computer2 to the user list of Computer1 (through - Control Panel).

Good Luck.

To share a printer in a workgroup, open your printers folder and click add printer. Select network printer, and click next. Type in the box \\computer1\HPprinter and click next. The computer will then try to find the printer on the network and then prompt you to install the drivers.
