Missing password

I can no longer remember, and have no record of, the password I created when I installed my laptop, a Toshiba Satellite L655D. Without the password, I can't update my anti-virus software or programs. Short of reinstalling my OS (Windows , is there a way to circumvent the problem, or get the computer to reveal the password?
