Question

Missing "New Task (Run...)" after closing Explorer.exe

by vhonzell / July 1, 2016 9:01 AM PDT

Hi All,

Does anyone have any idea as to how the "New Task (Run...)" under the File tab of Windows Task Manager sometimes disappear when closing Explorer.exe?

I am running a program that stops responding half-way through the process of saving and the only way to fix it without closing the program is to end the process of explorer.exe and run it back again by clicking on "New Task" and typing explorer.exe.

For some reasons, sometimes the "New Task" disappears making me unable to run explorer.exe again which ends to my work not being saved because I have to restart the PC.

Any tips on how to get explorer.exe run again when the "New Task" disappears after closing it? Thank you!

I recall that discussion about a decade ago.

The answer was to log off and back in. No restart required.

Is there any other way?

Thanks for the reply.

Is there any other way to get explorer.exe back up again (new task is still grayed out or missing in task manager) without logging off?

Yes but you would be a programmer

And create an app to fire up explorer in another way. I feel that if you were a programmer I would not need to mention this.

I'm going to shortchange you on this are as it was in some prior discussion long ago and the average folk were getting upset and the programmers were just nodding.

This is no bug. Just an odd thing about Windows.
