buster_abby, There should be a copy of that file in your C:\Windows\System32 folder and your C:\Windows\System32\dllcache folder. Go into Folder Options>View tab and select "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)", click Apply/OK. Now open the C:\Windows\System32\dllcache folder, find the msimg32.dll file, right click it choose "Copy" then open the C:\Windows\System32 folder find an empty spot, right click and choose "Paste".

Did you follow my instructions in my first reply and get into Folder Options and do what I said? If you did You would then go into Windows Explorer (NOT Internet Explorer) Start>Programs>Accessories>Windows Explorer. On the left click the "+" in front of My Computer, click the "+" in front of Local Disk (C:), click the "+" in front of the Windows folder, click the "+" in front of the System32 folder and you should the see the dllcache folder.

Let's try registering that dll file. Click Start, click Run the copy and paste or type in:

regsvr32 MSIMG32.dll

Click OK.

Note that the spacing is important.

No that file will not work and you shouldn't have used it but it shouldn't hurt anything.

Try a System Restore to the closest date just PRIOR to when this problem started. Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.

How to use System Restore Windows XP.

It still never worked. It would not restore to any date, I tried a couple. Is there any other way that I can get it back?
