Missing Files After New Drive Letter Appears

Jan 20, 2005 12:53PM PST

Running Windows ME. Installed a 250 gig drive partitioned into 2 drives of 116 gig each. Put 52 and 53 gig of files on the drives. After 3 weeks of no problems I did a scandisk on all drives. A new drive of 7 gig popped up (G). It was unformatted. I figured this is the remaining unused space on the drive so I formatted it for use. I checked the next drive (H) and then opened it to check contents. The files appeared and then disappeared in about 1 second. The properties show that 52 gig of space is used but will not show files. Another scandisk on this drive locks up. The next drive (I) is unaffected. Using Partition Magic, Drive G is shown as fat or fat12. To get my files back do I change G's Fat to 32 so it matches the other drives and merge the partition? I'm not sure what to do with this. Any experienced help would be great. Thanks
