It could be that your PCI NIC went out. The NIC is commonly known to go out. One thing to try is go into BIOS and make sure the on-board NIC is enabled and see if Windows detects a card. One last thing to check is in device manager and look for the a heading called Other Devices. If there is one you may need to re-install the ME drivers for your NIC, either off you CD or from the manufactures web site. Hope this helps.
Hello,
Having trouble with a new computer recognizing the NIC card. I have shipped the PC running windows ME to a friend of mine (built it for her) and there appears to be no NIC card in device manager. The protocol for it and the TCP/IP was in the Networking section in control panel but I removed it in an effort to get the computer to run the Found New Hardware Wizard...didn't work. Apparently she initially plugged the Ethernet Cable into the motherboard (there is onboard Ethernet as well as a PCI) and ran the networking wizard this way. I however configured it to run from the PCI card. I had her move the CAT5 cable, but am wondering if this has something to do with the now missing NIC. All wizards (networking and add new hardware) run their course just fine but they don't appear to do anything. All settings in IE and everywhere else seem to be fine. But she can't connect to anything and I am assuming this is because there is technically no connection. Does this sound familiar or any thoughts out there?
