rash1969, Go to the link below and scroll down to line 195(right column) and download the "Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar" .vbs file. Save it to your hard drive (you may want to right click and use Save Target As). Double
click the vbs file. You will be prompted when the script is done.
"NOTE: If your anti-virus software warns you of a "malicious" script, this is normal if you have "Script Safe" or similar technology enabled. These scripts are not malicious, but they do make changes to the System Registry".
Ok here are the facts.
My sister in laws PC is running XP Home. Does POST and the all the usual boot up goodies, Welcome, loading personal settings and then all she gets is fluffy cat wallpaper. No desktop ikons, no task bar.
The only way to get access to the system programs is by launching windows task manager(ctrl + alt + del) and browsing thru' wordpad to get access to the hard drive. The only recovery tool to play with is a system restore disk that will wipe everything out.
She does not have a hard copy of XP Home, so I can not run a repair.
Does anyone know of a fix for this problem, Coz its bugging the hell out of me(I was told to run as a new task "explorer.exe" but no luck there). I sure could use some help if some one could be so kind.
