Having developed software and more the cost of maps is where the money is...
I have just purchsed a Mio C520 GPS as recently reviewed and given the editors choice by Cnet. I have just received the pricing for the USA software and it retails for a very high $299. On the MIO UK website it retails for 83 pounds! I realise the exchange rate difference however this is massive. When compared to the alternative Garmin GPS product it retails for around $125 US at various outlets in the US via the net.Tom Tom can be downloaded for AUD $79.95. The $220 saving will effectively give you the top of the range Tom Tom.
The point is that whilst the Mio upfront price is very good be aware of the what appears to be the high extra software price if you plan to use the unit overseas.
Does anyone know a less expensive way of obtaining the US mapping software?
Thanks
