Question

Minor Browser Issue

Oct 8, 2018 6:20AM PDT

Don’t know quite how to explain this minor ‘browser’ issue

I have Firefox set as my default browser. I have it on my ‘taskbar’. If I click a ‘link’ in Thunderbird or in a LibreOffice ‘word’ document Firefox opens but now I have “two” Firefox icons on my taskbar. “Clicking” on my “regular” Firefox icon opens another internet connection. I saw this ‘issue’ before the latest windows 10 update. I updated on October 3rd without issue, and this “Firefox” issue is still there. I don’t suppose its hurting anything, but of course I don’t know that. I ran my usual ‘anti-stuff’ and also ‘scan disk’.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Combine taskbar buttons already on "Always hide labels"

Maybe a picture will help. Hope this works. I notice that 'two' icons 'don't show up if I already have Firefox open. But if I don't have Firefox open then you get two icons on taskbar.

I've seen that.

The Firefox to the left is not active but the one on the right is.

I've seen this when Firefox was launched from say email. To me this is not a bug. Cosmetic only.

I suppose its 'cosmetic only' problem

But the 'issue' only recently appeared, thus my cause for concern. By the way, the 'icon' on the left is my 'normal' icon, and yes the icon on the right appears when I click on a link in my Thunderbird email account. The icon on the left is 'active', as I clicked on it to see if it would open another Internet connection which it did. As previously stated, when I click on a libreOffice word document "link", it also creates a 'second' icon. As does 'Revo' uninstaller when on those occasions it needs to open an Internet connection during the uninstall process.

Again, this issue only recently begin within the past couple of three weeks. Before the 'new' windows 10 update, an update by the way that went smoothly. Only a couple of minor issues that had to be correctly, as had occurred on previous 'updates'.

Microsoft is famous for such things.

I've seen this since about W7 so it comes and goes. If it's a show stopper just make the call the Microsoft and see what they say.

Issue resolved
Oct 13, 2018 6:39AM PDT

I had posted back in June that I was getting frequent 'app crashes' when I opened my Firefox browser. I further stated that with suggestions on the 'net' that I had uninstall my 64bit Firefox and replaced it with the 32bit browser and the issue had been resolved. Apparently that lasted until a more recent update of the 32bit browser late in September. It must have started my most recent issue. Thursday I remembered that I was running the 32bit browser. I uninstalled 'it' and installed the 64bit browser. Issue resolved. Opening links in an email or my libreOffice word document "no longer" caused this "second" Firefox icon to appear on my taskbar.

When I went to download the 64bit browser, onto my 64bit desktop PC there was a message from Firefox stating that with their move to 64bit browsers the 'crashes' had been resolved.

So, apparently both my issues have been resolved.

Thanks for your input.
