ABL is usually associated with Standard or Eco Modes as it is a way for plasma TVs to conform to Energy Star standards. What size do you have? The larger your TV the harder it is for it to hit a high brightness as this is a side-effect of plasma technology, and the only TVs we've seen that can maintain brightness on a white screen is the Pioneer Kuro and the Samsung F8500. Unfortunately there is little you can do to increase brightness beyond using our settings.
The flicker is a separate issue and not something we've seen occur on this TV, are you using 3D mode?
Been using my new Panasonic ST60 for a week. Seems to be suffering from abl (Automatic Brightness Limiter) when watching Hockey & Basketball. The picture flickers throughout the game, it is distracting. I did read a post(s)suggesting to switch from Standard picture mode to the Cinema or cnet calibrated setting; this does improve the light flicker but does not eliminate it. Doesnt seem likely Panasonic will release a software update to address abl issue?!. Wondering what specific calibration pro settings directly effect abl so I may tweak it even more to view these sports? Adjusting contrast only had no effect. Any other suggestions?
(Had the light flicker too when watching a DVD of an NBA game). This issue seems to only impact NHL, NBA, & Arena Football games at this point. Please help.
