MiniDV Tapes

Dec 14, 2005 7:03AM PST

I've just purchased a new MiniDv camcorder Panasonic PV-GS150. I tested it with new tapes and it works fine with video and audio when I play it back but when I played the 3 yr old MiniDV tapes taken from JVC camcorder the audio does not play. The video is fine.
I tried several Menu adjustments but no joy. Somebody told me the old tapes must have recorded on LP mode that if I played it with another newer brand there's incompatibility of audio playback. I'm not sure what it is. Any suggestion of what needs to be done? Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks.

Glenn

What needs to be done may not be a "happy."

I suggest taking the tape to the store to find out what camcorders play said tape.

able to play its tapes. The tapes will only play on the misaligned unit that made them. Also, the misaligned unit will most likely have trouble playing tapes made by correctly aligned units.

I ask my friends to see if he can play it with his old camcorder and he said it works fine. I'm not sure if the new Panasonic camcorder is misalign because I use it during my daughter's birthday and it works good so nothing wrong with the new camcorder except that it doesn't play with the particular old tape. I suspect the video recorded on the tape was taken on LP mode because there were a few tapes that was used during that timeframe on the same camcoder that will play on the new camcorder so it must have been the mode that I use to record those video. There must be a way to recover those video with audio and burn it to DVD. Worst case scenario I'll have to borrow my friend's camcorder and use it to transfer the file to my PC/HD and go from there.
