Mini notebook purchase advice needed

by riverman9711 / November 1, 2011 5:10 AM PDT

I am in the market for a small notebook computer. I am torn between the HP dm1-4010us with the AMD dual-core processor E-450 and the HP dm1-4050us with the Intel Core i3-2367M processor. Is it worth the extra $140 for the intel processor? Or is there a better alternative around the same pricerange. $450 to $550.

We tried the various other offerings but now consider only the i5 and better systems. Nod to the i3 Sandy Bridge unit.

If all you need to low cost without any big performance concerns (video play is fine on both) then why not pocket the savings?

My wife and I spend 4 months a year on the boat so portability is a must and long battery time. We like to stream video (Hulu,ESPN and youtube) for entertainment. So if you say video is fine on either so as you say "why not pocket the savings"

Then let's check that battery time.

The dm1-4050us notes up to 10 hours.
The dm1-4010us notes up to 9.5 hours.

In reality I find I get half of that time.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
