Question

Mini-freezes during online games

Sep 6, 2016 1:45AM PDT

Hi,

First time I’m posting on CNET, so I hope I include all the correct and relevant info. I built my comp approx. 3 months ago with the help of an IT friend, please see details below:

Motherboard: Gigabyte H170-Gaming 3 Intel H170
Power Supply: Corsair CMPSU-500CXV3 500Watt 80Plus Bronze ATX Power Supply Unit
Graphics: Gigabyte N960-G1-GAMING-4GD 4G GTX 960 G1 Gaming PCI-E VGA Card
CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz 6MB
HDD: WD 3.5" Blue 2TB
SSD: Samsung 750 250GB
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB Kit (8Gx2) DDR4 2133 Desktop RAM
OS: Windows 10 Pro (Running the OS off the SSD)

I use the PC mainly for gaming and usually only play League of Legends (LoL), Rocket League and Shadow of Mordor.

Everything has been running well for the past 3 months until a week ago. The issue I’m experiencing is when playing Rocket League or LoL, the pre-game client freezes briefly then unfreezes. For example, when I open LoL and click ‘Launch’ it will freeze for a bit then launch the game, which it never used to do. Once the game has launched, if I wanted to click on the store or view my summoner profile, I will click on the icon to do so, it will freeze briefly, then go to the page I’m trying to get to. When the issue was not there, I would simply click on something and that page would instantly appear.

In game, it isn’t running as smoothly as it was either. The freezes aren’t as bad as pre-game but FPS is down from 200-300 (when it was running well) to about 30-60 (currently).

What I’ve tried so far:

• I’ve scanned my PC with Bitdefender and nothing has been detected.
• I’ve reinstalled LoL and it does not fix anything.
• Read up on various forums for the past week and can’t seem to figure out the issue.
• Played Shadow of Mordor on Ultra settings and haven’t encountered any lag/freezing. It has been running perfectly. Which makes me think it may be an internet issue because LoL and RL require internet. However, I haven’t done anything to my internet since I first set it up about 4 months ago.

If anyone has any suggestions on what I could potentially do to fix this, I would really appreciate it.

TIA.

Figured out the problem. Power settings were on power saver. Turned it to balanced and everything is working perfectly. Appreciate your help though, thank you.
