Mini DVD to PC

Nov 17, 2006 9:14AM PST

I recently purchased a Sony DCR-DVD 105 (I know, I know that this is an early model, but I didn't think I needed all the rest of the bells and buzzers of the newer models!!). I want to upload the videos onto my PC but cannot find a way. The camcorder did not come with a cord to upload and I somehow thought that I could just put the mini-dvds into my PC tray and upload it. Silly me.

What do you all have in mind (other than I should have purchased a newer model)?

Thanx in advance for the help,

Chadrock

The easiest thing to do is to use

a DVD ripper. Go to www.download.com (here at CNET) and find/download and install one - I use a Macintosh, primarily, and I use HandBrake. I understand there is a Windows version, but I don't *think* it is posted here. There are lots of them out there. Some are freeware some are commercial (pay $).

Perhaps there are some Windows users out there who can recommend a ripper for that OS...

I forgot to mention...

Since we don't know what kind of computer you have or its configuration, we don't know if you actually have a DVD drive. In order to read the DVD you insert, you need a DVD drive...

And another thing, be sure you "finalize" the disc before putting it into your 'puter. See page 56 (I *think*) of your camera's manual... Someone else on these boards had problems with a finalized -RW disc, but the finalized -R worked great... so heads up...

Finalizing....

For some reason, when I finalize DVD+RW discs in the camcorder they are ruined and the video is lost so do not finalize the +RW discs. To get the video from the disc, download VirtualDub (google search) and also the free panasonic DV codec. With both, you can import your videos and save them as .avi file which is pretty common in video editing applications. If you decide to do this, I'll post more info...
