Question

Migrating from hdd to an ssd in windows 8.1

May 9, 2015 3:56AM PDT

I have an Hp probook 450 g1 which came with a pre installed windows 8 which i later updated to 8.1. I accidently deleted the recovery partition . Now i wish to install an ssd in my laptop to have my OS in it and the hdd for files and other data other than the OS and the installations .
My hdd is 750 gb with 5 partitions .
C: with 389 gb used 50 gb , D(recovery image) with 11.9gb, E(hp_tools) with 1.99 gb ,f: with 97.6 gb and g: with 76.4 gb .
I googled a lot and learned that in order to migrate i will have to clone my c partition to an ssd and then try to boot from that ssd but i would also need to repair my system using the recovery disk (which i do not have ) .
Now i have no clue what to do . I had thought of migrating and bought the ssd which was very costly for me . I need a solution .How do i migrate my Windows 8.1 to an ssd given that my current hdd has multiple partitions and i do not have a recovery disk .

There are other ways like cloning the drive with Acronis. I don't duplicate how since that's on the web.

As to ordering media, most of use assume you buy from the maker/dealer in the country and not something fringe where you are in a country without such and brought it in. I can't guess that. But even so you contact the maker to ask how to order. I don't work for them.

That legal download probably works for the necessary repair after cloning the c:-partition. Worth a try.

Or even better: make your own!

Why not clone to the SSD and then try and boot from it and maybe you will find no need for the recovery disk at all? If you know someone there with the same maker and model of computer who actually did create the recovery disks while still had the chance to do so, maybe they will make you a copy. If they've not upgraded, then maybe they can make themselves (after you explain how you forgot to and the problem you now face) the recovery disk and also make you a copy.
