Microtek X6 Scanner will not scan negatives

Jul 1, 2005 12:40AM PDT

I have 2 Microtek X6 Scanners, a SCSI and a parallell port Model, I also have the 35mm Negative Light Lid as well as the Large format Light lid.
The problem that I have is that the Scanners both work fine and work with the 35mm Light attached, but do not work with the Large format Light lid.
Before you say that the lid is U/S, I have had this lid checked by a reputable electrician and it is OK.
The Problem: Whilst Scanning large format Negatives the Light lid will activte as if to scan, IE the light comes on then the platter moves but as soon as it reaches the negative it shuts itself down, sometimes with an error code, but most times not, I have written to Microtek in Holland to no avail. any help most appreciated.
Operating system Windows 98

Did it ever work?

If not, why not return them under warranty?

Yes the SCSI did Work, and both machines are way out of warranty I have and am still trying to contact Microtek in Germany to see if they can supply me with a circuit diagram or list of error codes. The operating system is Win 98SE. The major error code states do not light not detected do not use preview mode. any Ideas will be most appreciated. and thank you for your reply.

I thought we were talking about items that were not beyond their service life. Best of luck in repair.

-> My parting thought is that you may have to try recreating the OS and machine that worked. For example, many parallel port scanner failed as we moved to ever faster machines. Sometimes installing a PCI parallel port card helps, sometimes tinkering with the SCSI speeds (lower...) in the SCSI BIOS helps. And sometimes a new SCSI cable. But I find older scanner owners loath to buy cards, cables and insist that you make what they have work.

Thankfully I know to gently move away from such people. I also know that repairs can exceed replacement costs and parts past 3 years old are other orphaned and never to be talked about again.
