Microsoft Word 97 Error Message

by tibs47 / May 26, 2008 10:45 PM PDT

Every time we now open word we get an error message box with the heading Microsoft Visual Basic. In the box it says 'Compile Error in hidden module: AutoExec.' When we now save any work the save title has a small wavy line followed by a $ sign in front of it when we open the piece of work it shows a load of rubbish stuff. Any help please of how we can deal with this. I am not very computer literate so easy stages please.
thanks,
Tibs 47

It does it "now". This might mean that it didn't do it "then". So what changed between "then" and "now"?
And please tell what's your OS (can be anything from Windows 95 to Windows Vista).

Sorry, lack of knowledge!!! My computer is running Windows XP. I do not know what the before and after may be but over the weekend I have downloaded Service Pack 3 for Windows and also the latest versions of Skype and Adaware. I cannot think of anyting else which may have affected it. My son in law also was using the computer. I do not know what he was doing!!! He is my next port of call when he gets home from work. Thanks for your time.

Thank you all for your help. I have solved the problem by moving the two offending files out of Word and Excel start up. They are now sitting proudly on my desktop as a permanent reminder!
Regards.
