microsoft word 2003 forms (cut and paste)

Jan 3, 2010 11:51AM PST

I have a form document that I need to be able to have the user fill in the form and then copy and paste after the form is completed to put into another application (a medical software application). I have to protect the form to enable the drop downs which thus will not allow the user to copy the completed form. I can't allow the user to unprotect the document. Any ideas on how I can accomplish this?

Thanks Kees - my thought process is swaying that way also - do you have any ideas on what application I could utilize to accomplish my task? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That really depends on ...

the options offered by the "medical software application". Does it accept xml, jpg, pdf, doc, txt files, or e-mails or does it have a web-based interface with html-forms or php-processing or j2ee or .net backend?
It's up to you to find an optimal way of doing the necessary input, possibly in collaboration with the makers of said software.

MS WORD FORM

It basically is for the ease/time for providers to enter their documentation into the EMR. It is actually just an unlimited text field that the physician types in his examination/findings/recommendations. They would like to have a form to go off of that will prompt them (hence the created form in MS office) and then just copy and paste the info into that text field. The EMR is not a user friendly application and the cost to have the software company create a module is not in their budget so we are just looking for some type of a work around. Thanks.

You could write a macro that

- unprotects the form
- selects all
- copies it to the clipboard
- protects the form

All they have to do is run that macro and paste into the application.

I have been creating blank forms with OpenOffice.org

using the text document. It can be changed into a .pdf at the top.
Since I have Word Document and WinWord2003, I found an item on www.majorgeeks.com that is a "Free PDF to Word Doc Converter" from "pdf2word(dot)exe". That converts .PDF into Word. It took a while to figure how to use Open Office [.odf] with caps, centering the top, underlining and using ________ for the spaces for each line.
This was for a Physical Therapist Rehab. My friend used her FAX to make copies - I have a PSC with the flatbed to do the same. I would just scan the document and put it into the correct directory and she'd put the original in her folder. She was amazed at what I did since I do not have a backgound in medical field. At the bottom of some forms, I copied the a paper that had a warning that this a privacy act. I cut the copy at the bottom with that and added it to the other papers at the bottom and scanned them(under the paper). Darrell
