Microsoft Updates delete my HP Photosmart 3210 Drivers

Jul 18, 2010 8:54PM PDT

I am running Vista Home Premium on a Compaq CQ 60 Laptop that I bought just over a year ago. I downloaded the Vista version of the HP Photosmart 3210 printer drivers and had no trouble initially. So far, the drivers have been deleted several times and always following a Microsoft update. Where can I get a fix for this problem?

I'm not sure how it does it, but the printer disappears from the printer window accessed via control panel. When I try to print the system offers me the option to save the document to the Microsoft XPS Document Writer.

OK...

....At this point, does the printer shows up at Device Manager ? When you print, does the print dialogue offers you other printers other than "save the document to the Microsoft XPS Document Writer." ?

I can't answer your first question because the last time the problem occurred, I reloaded the drivers. I can answer your second - it offers only the document writer.

On previous occasions, clicking on the HP Solution Center desktop icon produced the message "No HP Device on this computer" or words to that effect. It didn't show up on the network schematic accessible via control panel either.

I did search through the HP files that did remain in the HP program folder to see if I could find the Setup.exe without success.

Thanks for your assistance.

Updates delete my HP Photosmart 3210 drivers

mustafagaspa, I am experiencing this same problem for several months. Every time I need to reinstall the drivers on two PCs that are running Vista. A windows7 PC has no issues. HP has developed some diagnostic tools that can be downloaded from the support site to help out and diagnose the problem. It keeps on telling me I have a firewall problem, but I cannot fix it without a complete new reinstall. I am running Norton Internet Security 2011 on both machines. If I disable Norton then the PC discovers the printer in the network. As soon as I start Norton, the communication is blocked. The IP address of the printer is fixed, and the printer is labeled Full Trust in Norton. I do not manage to get it going.
