Microsoft update KB928366 - Warning despite installation

Jul 11, 2007 2:59AM PDT

Both my computers are set to receive automatic updates. All of yesterday's updates insalled fine including "Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB928366)" as confimed by the windows update webste. However both computers show the yellow warning telling me I have an update that needs to be installed. When I clicked to install it, all appears to go well. However, the yellow shield won't go away even on re-boot. Checking my update history on the MSFT website, it shows the initial automatic insallation was not completed but then was successfully installed by automatic updates. As it turns out, because I hit the yellow warning to install it several times, it now shows that this same update has been successfully installed five times !!!!! Anyone else had this problem? How do I resolve it? For now, I temporarily turned off my automatic updates - so I get a different annoying warning sign on both destops indicating my computer is not safe. Any help would be appreciated.

My NET 1. (what ever) wouldn't install
Jul 11, 2007 5:28AM PDT

On my home computer and my computer at work. I checked 4 machines at work, and it installed fine on those. At my work computer, I tried the Microsoft help website but didn't get much help there. I checked the update site, and for this computer it shows that I tried to install it three times and it failed three times. So my problem is a little different from yours...
Any ideas Cnet people how to fix this problem?
Thanks

.net update unsuccessful
Jul 13, 2007 11:05PM PDT

i keep getting the update running, when i run the update it's always unsuccessful. annoying because every time the computer comes off standby the hard drive runs like crazy for 3 minutes setting up the update again! i did read something on a web search where re-installing .net was suggested, but it appears to be microsoft's problem at this point.

KB928366

Solution: Go to Add/Remove, remove everything that has .NetFramework and the go into Windows Update, click custom and start installing everything with .NetFramework in it one at a time. Painful but it will work. Takes a while too. That was Microsofts solution and it did work

I uninstalled the first update for NET 2 and when I went to go uninstall the actual NET 2 I received the warning message that some programs might not work if I uninstall.
Hmm.....I have a lot of work related programs and not sure if I can safely uninstall the NET programs.

rick- tried updates
Jul 15, 2007 9:23AM PDT

i tried running the .net update, it tells me i already have it installed. i tried re-installing it anyway but it asks for my .net cd- i have no idea where i left this at work. i bet a re-install would work but i think everyone is wondering why they have to do that.

It did not work for me either

I say it is a waste of time to try and fix this goofball mess. I refuse to spend hours on it and figure in the next set of monthly updates, as the result of thousands of complaints; they will fix it.

I Had a Simular Problem
Sep 4, 2007 1:24PM PDT

If you have the below three Updates showing in "Add and Remove" you could ininstall of them = Then let Micosoft Updates reindentiy and install the ones required! Then see if corrects your problem?

"MSXML 6.0 Parser (KB933579)), I just uninstalled
the MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB936181) and MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB927978)-"

I agree with jaybart, I was also having the same problem, but I didn't
uninstall the Parser (MSXML 6.0 Parser (KB933579)), I just uninstalled
the MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB936181) and MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB927978)-the previous
version, and restart, then use auto-update to update the (KB936181)
and problem sloved, in my experience, you must also uninstall the
previous, otherwise it just same.

An extra to Coryphaeus,
Noticed on first using/accessing the "MS Upadte" it first installed a MS small prgm? Then all went OK!

Thankyou

ok, i uninstalled and updated, still had the problem. then i went to the manual download of the installer and installed it, fine. on windows update it still wants to do the .net update (which is unsuccessful again).
