Microsoft Stops Windows 10 October 2018 Update

Oct 7, 2018 10:12AM PDT

If you have downloaded the latest ISO from the Media Creation Tool, avoid installing it at this time and wait for new media.

Microsoft has stopped distributing its latest Windows 10 October 2018 Update. The software giant started rolling out the update during the company’s Surface event earlier this week, but some Windows 10 users immediately noticed their documents were being deleted. “We have paused the rollout of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (version 1809) for all users as we investigate isolated reports of users missing some files after updating,” says Microsoft on its support site for Windows Update.

Hope this helps................

While most mods have good computing practices, the last 10 users I met with had no backups of:

MS Re-releasing October Update - Fixes File Deletion Bug
Oct 9, 2018 4:38PM PDT
"It appears the bug that caused file deletion was related to Windows 10 users who had enabled Known Folder Redirection to redirect folders like desktop, documents, pictures, and screenshots from the default location. Microsoft introduced code in its latest update to delete the empty and duplicate known folders, but it appears they weren’t always empty. Microsoft has developed fixes to address a variety of problems related to these folder moves, and these fixes are now being tested with Windows Insiders. "

The re-release will start with Insider program before being fully released to normal consumers.

Hope this helps.

Oct 12, 2018 5:30PM PDT
"We have fully investigated all reports of data loss, identified and fixed all known issues in the update, and conducted internal validation."..............

We will carefully study the results, feedback, and diagnostic data from our Insiders before taking additional steps towards re-releasing more broadly."

Windows 10 V1809 Has Another Data Loss Issue?
Oct 22, 2018 11:23AM PDT

It seems to be something with the .zip program within Windows:

Windows 10 version 1809 plagued by another data loss issue

https://www.ghacks.net/2018/10/20/windows-10-version-1809-plagued-by-another-data-loss-issue/

But Microsoft HAS released some fixes to the Insider Preview group and working toward the re-release of v1809. Read about it below:

Microsoft stops window updation
Dec 20, 2018 4:05AM PST

Hello,

All window user face this like a problem. Microsoft is now recommending that affected users contact the company directly, if you have manually downloaded the October update then please don’t install it and wait until new media is available. Other Windows 10 users have been complaining that the Microsoft Edge browser and other store apps have been unable to connect to the internet after the October 2018 Update, and the update was even blocked on certain PC due to Intel driver incompatibilities.

Nope: Windows 10 Updates Are Still Happening..
Dec 20, 2018 12:54PM PST

All our Windows 10 computers, including those that are already at version 1809, updated normally on Patch Tuesday. New installation media has been available for quite a while. Yes, there have been some update blocks on a few machines and many of the issues you talk about have been addressed, but as mentioned, in one of our other topics in this forum, the latest version 1809 is being re-released slowly and is proceeding.

Hope this helps.

If You're Not Having Issues, Then It May Not Affect You
Dec 22, 2018 11:36AM PST

Not all folks are having a problem with the file deletion bug. There are a few other issues for some users but you can read about them in Microsoft's link below:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4464619/windows-10-update-history

I take care of a handful of computers which are running the latest Windows 10 V1809 and they've shown no problems with it. So... if you're not having problems, keep moving forward.

Hope this helps.
