Microsoft Side Winder Precision 2 joystick Help

Hello i have a Microsoft Side Winder Precision 2 joystick that I plug in to one of the front USB ports on my PC using XP. But today I plugged it in and did not work yet everything else still works in these ports. I did try one of the back USB port by removing the printer, and after saying found new hardware, and is now ready to use which it did. I then unplugged it to try in front but still it did not work tried it in the back ports again and now nothing there ether? can anyone please help thanks.
