Users With Internet Explorer 11 And Earlier - Run WU Twice..
Feb 11, 2015 2:49AM PST

For those users which don't have Automatic Updates on Windows running and use the Windows Updates site to manually scan and update their Windows computers each month on "Patch Tuesday", please note there is a need to run a second scan and update for the February round of updates. During the first scan and series of updates, in addition to all the other patches mentioned in Carol's list above, there is a "Critical" cumulative update for Internet Explorer which pops up. (For example, on all our Windows 7 machines with IE11, the update is KB3021952) After the installation of all the first series of updates, a restart is needed.

After restarting the computer, you'll need to run another Windows Updates scan at the website. When doing so, a second Internet Explorer update will show up which didn't appear during the first scan. (This time, our Windows 7 computers with IE11 had a secondary update KB3034196) The second update is an "Important" update which patches a vulnerability in the "jscript9.dll".) According to the MS15-09 Security Bulletin in question, it appears like this should happen on IE versions 9, 10, and 11.

I'll guess that those with Automatic Updates enabled, they will see the secondary update popup shortly after the first set are installed.

Hope this helps.

Just done mine

Via Automatic Updates and not by visiting the WU site.

IE 11 update KB3021952 installed along with 17 others, (some were Office 2007 updates), and rebooted afterwards.

That was about half an hour ago. No sign of KB3034196 yet although may be I am too impatient.

I am logging off now for the night, (UK time), and will see what happens tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay. When I booted up the laptop first thing this morning Automatic Updates soon offered me KB3034196 for IE11.

A quick install and restart and all is well.

Grif -- Feb Windows Updates IE11 not working
Feb 21, 2015 3:41AM PST

I have IE 11.....updates installed fine late February 19 and the KB3034196 was waiting to be installed at the next boot on February 20. Did a successful install of KB3034196 and IE was fine all day until evening when I kept receiving the Windows has stopped working messages. I shut down the computer in the hope it would heal itself, but when I booted this morning it was still happening. Can this be connected with the KB3034196 Windows Update?

I am able to get on the Internet using my AOLdesktop, which I think (but not sure) also uses the IE 11.

Appreciate help......Miki

Magic, I Guess???
Feb 22, 2015 2:21AM PST

No reason for the failure of IE/Windows, plus no reason for how it fixed itself.. Magic, I guess. Happy)

Of course, it's always a good idea to have a second browser installed, like Firefox, just in case such problems occur. But to answer your original question...I've seen no such problems here with KB3034196.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, Grif, for your reply

I was grateful my PC's AOL software acted as a second browser. There were posts on Google from others who had the same thing happen on the same day as mine......Having said all that.....I prefer to stay with "magic". Happy
