Microsoft's Mundie seeks 'vaccine' for the common computer virus

Nov 23, 2003 10:50PM PST
Craig Mundie, chief technical officer of Microsoft, aims to convince customers that Windows is a superior product to Linux.

Craig Mundie, Microsoft Corp.'s chief technical officer, may have the toughest job at the world's largest software maker even though he says otherwise.

While company luminary Bill Gates guides Microsoft and chief executive Steve Ballmer runs day-to-day operations, Microsoft's No. 3 executive must find technical answers to some of the software giant's most pressing problems while also leading the company's charge into new product areas.

Amongst Mr. Mundie's major tasks these days are finding ways to protect users of its ubiquitous Windows software, that runs most of the world's personal computers, from hackers.
