As usual MS did little, when they could do more. There are a large number of users, including businesses (the only customers MS cares about), who will not be able to use this.
They know how many will not update Windows from 2000 or 98, especially with the locked in corporate licensing issues. They know how many still use Office 2000 and see no reason to upgrade, specially when Office 2003 kills backward compatibility making it impossible to go back to an earlier version.
Gates must have had an idle moment one day and done this to fill the time, because he sure as hell didn't give a damn about the consumer with this pathetic offering.
Not sure was this posted before, but I wander is there any disadvantage of using this over CWShredder (appart from being issued by MS)?,
MS Word is notorious for containing private information in file headers, but not any longer. Microsoft has quietly released a tool to scrub leaky metadata from documents edited with its software. The Remove Hidden Data Add-In will permanently remove hidden and collaboration data, such as change tracking and comments, from MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint files. For Windows XP/Office 2003 only, we should add.

The Remove Hidden Data add-in has not been tested on Microsoft Windows 2000. Also, the add-in cannot be installed on Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition.
This download works with the following Office applications:
Microsoft Office Excel 2003
Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003
Microsoft Office Word 2003
Microsoft Excel 2002
Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
Microsoft Word 2002
