Hi Den65, sorry to take so long.
Outlook isn't asking to make it your default browser, it's asking to make it your default email software. Your browser is what you use to surf the internet. You can suppress that message from within Outlook, in Tools > Options I believe, but if you click Yes to make it the default email software it doesn't do any harm. All that happens is that if you open Outlook Express again, it will ask the same question, and you can click Yes or No. Again, you can suppress it from asking the question.
Also, you don't have to de-activate Outlook Express. Just stop using it. You can, if you wish, partially uninstall it so that at least it looks like it has gone. If you want to do so, goto the Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs, then click the Add/Rermove Windows Components button on the left. A new window will open listing components, and OE will be listed there. Just remove the tick and click Next. You will lose any stored emails when you do this.
Setting up an email account in Outlook is more difficult. If you have your account setup details for OE, just use those when you create a new account in Outlook under Tools > Accounts > Create new account. If you don't, visit your Internet Service Providers, (ISP), or your email provider if different, web site and find their instructions for setting up email accounts. They all should have advice.
Norton's should already be configured to check any emails going into Outlook. It checks the emails first before letting them in anywhere, then passes them on to whichever program, (or whichever email software), called for the emails. But if you are still unsure, open up your Norton's email scanner program and check it's configuration.
I hope that helps.

I've been using Outlook Express as my email program ever since I got my PC. I am thinking of switching to MS Outlook as my default email program as I heard the latter has more features. When I open my MS Outlook, amessage asks me if I want to make Outlook my default browser? What are the things I have to configure, if any to disable OE and activate MS Outlook? Also, and most importantly, will my Norton AV '06 email scanner be running on my new email program? Appreciate some help and instructions on this issue.
