Microsoft Oulook XP

May 18, 2005 1:13AM PDT

I am running XP Pro and Occice XP sometime ago i had a virus problem ... got rid of the problem but since then I can not open Outlook when I try I get this message "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook, Outlook requires Microsoft Outlook Express 4.1 or greater. You can install Outlook Express by running IE5Setup.exe from IE5 folder created on your CD or through Windows update.
I am using Oulook Express as my mail program and have no problems with it ...Can anyone help me to find a way to get Outlook to open?

Is there a typo in that message?

See http://www.google.com/search?&q=site%3Asupport.microsoft.com+%22Outlook+requires+Microsoft+Outlook+Express+4.1+or+greater%22

However if I alter the message a little I get this:
http://www.google.com/search?&q=+site%3Asupport.microsoft.com+%22Outlook+requires+Microsoft+Outlook+Express+4.01+or+greater%22

-> Specifically the virus could have damaged the registry key noted in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320863 It's too bad that they don't mention XP or Outlook XP, but the key is the same.

It looks to me that the viral damage is still there.

Best of luck in recovery.
