So you are writing that only the office application locks up? Not the machine or OS?

Got all the Office patches and no SPYWARE?

well I think it's office that locks up ..if it's the O/S ..how can I find out if that's the cause...what can I do if it is the O/S I'm useing is XP Professional and I'm not on line yet

That's the rub. You'll have to distinguish if an office application has stopped responding or not. It's fairly simple. In XP one can control-alt-delete and the task machine would show the program and you could endtask it and start it again. If the machine/os failed, this would not happen.

Your comment about on or offline is INTERESTING since everyonce in awhile I run into someone that didn't install the SP2 patch or an antivirus because "they are not online". We usually find a worm or virus on the machine in spite of not being online.

Hi there

Try these:
* Rename all normal.dot files
* update your display driver and printer driver
* If you have installed Works, uninstall it
* do a repair on the Office Installation

Hope it helps Happy
