Question

Microsoft Mice and Keyboard Center error

May 8, 2015 5:11AM PDT

I am trying to install this software so I can use the scroll button in certain programs. Even picture preview won't scroll without the software. The mouse works fine, has done for 3 years with this software but I bought a new SSD about a month ago and reinstalled the OS, and since then the software comes up with Error Code 1603. I try to reinstall and get a message that I must at least have Windows 7 installed. I have Windows 7 SP1 since it was released.
I'm lost here, help appreciated.

Answer
I'll skip googling error 1603.

I see a lot of posts about that but installing Windows 7 is far from easy enough. I can't see your plan so let's hear it.

I'm sorry?

This has nothing to do with installing Win 7, its the mouse and keyboard drivers that won't install.

That tells me you may have skipped drivers and apps.

The native drivers that came with 7 are usually not enough. I find myself checking my notes for the gear/PC on hand. Some like Dell need QuickSet, Toshibas have the QVAP and so on. I fear you are new to what to do after we install Windows.

New?

I've installed Win 7 quite a few times. I pre-ordered it from Amazon before its release. I have 2 PCs running Win 7. usually after a fresh install the drivers auto-download through Windows update, they did but they errored - like I have said. I've tried everything but the install just won't begin. It did in the past just not anymore.

It appears dropping hints isn't working.

Take it to a shop counter and have the post Windows driver/app work done.
