instead go to RUN, type MSCONFIG, click the Startup tab and look for all entries that aren't positively pointing to a program path on the right that you have installed on purpose. Uncheck the unknown items.
Now go to the WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI tabs and look for any entries in the LOAD= or RUN= lines of 'boot' and uncheck anything there that doesn't point to something obvious like your printer.
Close MSConfig, but don't reboot yet when asked.
Now go to Control Panel, Add\Remove Programs and look for unknown programs that you know you didn't install...especially Browser Helper Objects such has new toolbars, search engines, dialers, etc. and uninstall them.
Now reboot and see if any popups show back up...if they do, let us know and we'll go further to help get rid of them....as some of these items require getting into the registry to clean them up, but we'll use that method as a last resort.
Make sure your antivirus program is also up to date....even though you may have the appearance that the program is working there are some virus/trojans that disable it without your being able to tell that it has so you get a false sense of security, so you might also want to check at a free on-line scan to make sure you're clean.
Make sure your spyware program is also up to date...most programs have a box to click to check for updates or you can click File/Update from its toolbar if it doesn't check automatically on its own.
Make sure that you don't have viruses or spyware resident on the machine. Please click on any of the free online virus scanners at the links below:
You can get an online scan for viruses, trojans and variants at any of the following....however, all except one runs with an Active X control and will only work with Internet Explorer. The Trend scan link also includes a link for a Java version that can be run by other browsers such as Firefox.
"Click YES to complete your download" pop up window...
but we're not downloading. Updates are completed, no new ones out there. NAV & Firewall are in place, pop up blockers are on (but things are still popping up), ran spy bot, adaware, uninstalled any suspicious programs. Have no idea why it keeps asking for approval...anyone had this happen & know a fix. Don't want to click yes for fear it might be something I don't want. TIA...
