I recieved notice of update ready for download from microsoft this morning.No way to check it out because it wants to install active x to load page.

The following updates are listed:

Now I just need to know if anyone else gets the popup at microsoft site wanting to run active x to display page.

If you mean ActiveX installation prompt when you visits Windows Update website... Yes, it is needed especially if you don't have the new version of Windows Update Agent.

The current version of WUA is 7.4.7600.226
You can try to check what version you have by locating Wuauclt.exe in C:\Windows\System32

If you have older version, then the ActiveX prompt installation in Windows Update website will install the new one which is v7.4.7600.226. That's need to continue using Windows Update.
